Microsoft Clipchamp desktop software for Windows 10 and Windows 11 (version 3.x) now supports Azure Active Directory/Entra ID account logins. This implies that in addition to using Clipchamp in Microsoft Edge or Chrome, your users can also use the desktop version of the program. Prior to this release, customers were unable to use Clipchamp via the Windows desktop application since it was limited to supporting personal Microsoft accounts rather than work accounts. With this release, work accounts from app version 3.x—which is presently being incrementally rolled out to Microsoft 365 organizations—will be supported by the Clipchamp desktop app.
When will this go place?
General Availability (Worldwide): Microsoft anticipates that AAD/Entra account support for the Clipchamp desktop software will be fully implemented by early June 2024, having started in early May 2024.
Note: You may see the new app version 3.x on the Microsoft Store prior to the launch, which will allow you to manage it in Intune. However, AAD account support for the new app version 3.x won't be accessible until May.
How this will impact your company:
Your users won't have to utilize a web browser to access Clipchamp. The appropriate version of Clipchamp, which you may either assign to them as a standalone license or which is a part of your current Microsoft 365 SKU, can be opened by them via the desktop software.
What you should do in advance:
Make sure that the Clipchamp desktop app is installed on the devices you administer with version 3.x so that your users may access it from there. Work account logins are not currently supported by earlier app versions (2.9.x).
As administrators, you have the ability to control the desktop application, its accessibility for your users, the desktop application's personal and/or work versions' accessibility, and the overall accessibility of Clipchamp within your company, as outlined in the guide: How to enable or disable Clipchamp for users within your company. The section under "Managing availability of Clipchamp's desktop app for Windows" contains instructions on managing the desktop app.
