What is Windows 365 Cloud PC?

Windows is being moved to the cloud by Microsoft. Windows 365 is a new service that allows organizations to use Cloud PCs from anywhere using a web browser and a version of Windows 10 or Windows 11. Despite the fact that virtualization and remote access to PCs have been around for more than a decade, Microsoft is banking on Windows 365 to provide Cloud PCs to organizations as they transition to a mix of office and remote work.Users will be able to access their Cloud PC from a range of devices using any current web browser or Microsoft's Remote Desktop app with Windows 365.

Windows 365 is a new service that allows business customers to access Cloud PCs from anywhere, in its most basic form. A similar feature has previously been available through virtualisation and remote access software, but this is the first official service from Microsoft.

There's no need to be concerned if you're not sure whether your device qualifies as a Cloud PC. The session can be streamed to hardware running macOS, iPadOS, Linux, and Android, and it will be compatible with all Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.

After that, it's just a matter of going to the Cloud PC website and signing in – it works with all modern web browsers and Microsoft's Remote Desktop app.

Just as SaaS brought applications to the cloud, we're now bringing the operating system to the cloud, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a statement. This gives organizations greater flexibility and a secure way to empower their workforce to be more productive and connected, regardless of location.

You'll also have access to Microsoft 365 programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Excel through the Windows 365 site. Microsoft Teams, Adobe Reader, the Edge browser, and Microsoft Defender antivirus software will all be natively supported on most plans.

The features of Windows 365 plans are divided into two categories: 'Business' and 'Enterprise,' and they differ somewhat. Without a license, business subscribers may manage everything online at windows365.microsoft.com and add up to 300 people. The Enterprise tier removes this restriction, allowing you to expand on current licenses and use Microsoft's data protection software, Endpoint Manager.

Microsoft's cloud version of Windows isn't all that different from the many virtualization options available to enterprises right now. Similar technology is already available through Microsoft's Azure Virtual Desktop, while Citrix has been providing cloud-hosted desktop PCs for years. Microsoft is attempting to set itself apart in terms of both ease of use and administration.
